As part of the promotion for Brian’s forthcoming book Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D, a leading London photography gallery shall run a five-month exhibition, showcasing some of the captivating imagery. The pages are filled with striking juxtapositions as we peer into the lives of photographers from the UK, Spain, Italy, France, Indonesia, Australia,NZ, Thailand, US, Mexico, Paraguay, Sweden, NL and many more.

He continues to tour with Queen, as well as doing solo work and, of course, is a committed stereoscopy evangelist. And, as the Covid restrictions eventually began to relax, the new stereographers ventured back out and reclaimed the world!Unlike our previous books,’ he continues, ‘these images came in with every conceivable kind of alignment, framing etc, so it was an enormous job editing each one to get it to the optimum point. As it turned out, most of the people who submitted work are represented in some way, but of course some people put in irresistible work, so were featured more than once. This show exhibits new 3-D photography from the LSC’s latest publication “Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D”.

I published his book Scenes in our Village, chronicling the village where he grew up as a child, and I want to do more to tell his fascinating life story. We worked with scraps there -- in some cases we just had a couple of lines from Freddie and we wove stuff around it.BRIAN MAY: “STEREOSCOPY – the Dawn of 3-D” – is the book I have dreamed of publishing since we resurrected the London Stereoscopic Company in 2006.

Stereoscopy turned out to be a “rollercoaster ride with peaks and periods of total oblivion and neglect”, he added.Not only is the rockstar and stereo photographer celebrating the publication of Stereoscopy Is Good For You: Life in 3-D – a publication he deems to be one of the most important photography projects of his career – but the signing also marks the first opening of a dedicated stereoscopic outlet in London since 1854. The majority of LSC’s books have been historical,’ he says, ‘but this book is about photography for the common person, just as AP has set out its own agenda over the years. Some snapped the newly appreciated beauty of their immediate surrounding landscapes on permitted walks. Among the images in the book is a stereoscopic portrait of Dickens taken moments before he began reading extracts from his Christmas stories to an audience in 1858, and another of the author writing at his desk. Through his personal Instagram and the LSC’s social media platforms, Brian invited stereoscopists everywhere to capture and share images of living under lockdown and beyond.
