Bed and Breakfast at Holbeton, near Plymouth

ABOUT US . Rik and Nick 2018

Nicky is a solicitor by profession having specialised in criminal law in the Berkshire area. Having worked as a Solicitor for 24 years Nicky decided to change direction and moved to South Devon with Rik to run the Ivy Barn Bed and Breakfast. It has been a complete change of lifestyle for Nicky - no more late night trips to the police station representing clients, more looking after guests, and trips to the beach with Merlin the Cockerpoo. In quieter times Nicky enjoys yoga, running, reading, painting and walking Merlin.

Rik is a folk musician, song writer and story teller and plays a number of string instruments. You may find Rik over at the local pub The Mildmay Colours on a Friday night having a jam with the locals. He has been known to sing a few songs at breakfast but only if asked. Rik is our chef at The Ivy Barn and cooks a very good Full English breakfast, described by guests as a 'big boys breakfast ', 'the best breakfast on The South West Coast Path' and 'the best breakfast ever.'

ABOUT US . Dog friendly

We welcome dogs at The Ivy Barn bed and breakfast. We know your four legged friend is a very important part of the family and also needs a holiday and would thoroughly enjoy the sites and smells of the beautiful South Hams area.

We have four rooms that are pet friendly and keep two free from pets as we appreciate some guests do suffer from allergies.

We provide a dog bed, biscuit treats and bowls for your dog although you are quite welcome to bring your own. We also always have a supply of poop bags should your dog run out.

We do have a few rules which we ask you to respect. We do ask that your dog is never allowed on the bed or on any furniture at any time and is also not left unattended for long periods of time. We do not allow dogs in the breakfast room and are quite happy for you to leave your dog in the room if the dog and yourself are comfortable with that and will not cause any damage.

Please also clean up after your dog in the garden and around The Ivy Barn. We also ask that you do respect the other guests’ peace and make sure your dogs are not a nuisance to guests or neighbours.

We are happy to allow a maximum of 2 dogs in each room depending on the size. Please phone us to ask and tell us about your dogs! There is a nominal charge of £7 per dog per night.

Health and Safety with your dog:

There is a local by-law in place that dogs must be kept on a lead in the village.

Please remember to observe the country code and keep your dog on a lead when near livestock. If you are walking the South West Coast Path you can come across cattle and sheep on the path.

Care should always be taken on the coast path as there are some quite steep cliffs.

We always put the low tide times on a blackboard in the breakfast room and advise that you are careful of the currents in the sea especially when the tide is turning.

The nearest vet is South Moor Vets in Modbury on 01548 830210.
